Here at Inside Edge we chart every single pitch for every single MLB game. One of the biggest things we analyze on these pitches is the intended location of the pitcher. Sometimes it is quite obvious where the pitcher and catcher might want the pitch and other times the catcher might be playing some games behind home plate. It is our job to decipher that intended location. We have three location buckets — hit spot, slight miss, and major miss. Let’s take a look at the leaders through April:
Through April 30, Zach Eflin has the best On-Target Rate this season from any qualified pitcher. George Kirby has been praised with his incredible control since entering the league and it shows here with a 70.9% On-Target Rate.
How about teams? Are there certain teams that have excelled this year with accuracy on their pitches?
The Diamondbacks lead all teams with their On-Target Rate this season while the Angels are falling behind with a 53.7% On-Target Rate. Where does your team rank? How about your favorite pitcher?
